Ramirez, 71, who died Tuesday, Jan. 21, had dedicated his career to his community was well known by the residents and business owners, a GoFundMe page said.
"Officer Ramirez spent his years of service helping those in need and has positively impacted so many," said Sgt. Sofia Gulino, who started the fundraising effort. "He is a hero."
In early December 2019, Ramirez was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Gulino set up the GoFundMe to help his wife, Ana Ramirez, cover medical expenses, and to help honor his years of dedication and hard work, by giving back some of what he gave to the community.
Calling hours for Ramirez will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27 at St. Matthews Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, at St. Matthews Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk. The burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
